Movie Review: Good Luck Chuck

In order to keep the woman of his dreams (Jessica Alba) from falling for another guy, Charlie Logan (Dane Cook) has to break the curse that has made him wildly popular with single women: sleep with Charlie once, and the next man you meet will be your true love.

Obviously, just from the plot you can tell it's a pretty stupid movie. But I skipped it in the theaters just because I thought it was also a "chick flick", but the truth of the matter is it's probably much more of a "guy flick" really. It's got a lot of raunchy humor and the interactions between Charlie and his best friend, a cosmetic surgeon with a penchant for the lady's implants, are every bit as filthy as Knocked Up or Wedding Crashers. Now I'm not saying the movie is near as funny as those 2 movies, but just so you know more what to expect.

It is funny at times, not near often enough, and I like Dane Cook in this role and as always Jessica is great to look at and does a decent enough job in her role, even being on the receiving end of some slapstick humor. The movie does seem a bit mean-spirited at times though and heartless. For what should really be a love story, it's probably a bit too vulgar and crude for that target market to really enjoy it.

And it sort of bothered me that nobody really called him Chuck. Did "Good Luck Charlie" not have a good ring to it I guess?

So on the plus side you get a few laughs, Jessica Alba being sexy, lots of penguin cuteness, lots of topless females and what is almost a love story. But also it's juvenile, crude and offensive... so pick a side I guess. I personally found it watchable with a few laughs, but pretty forgettable.

5/10
