Metallica's CD Cover

The cover art for the upcoming new Metallica CD "Death Magnetic" has been released and I think it's pretty cool. It looks like magnetic pieces all drawn to some sort of coffin. Not sure what exactly it's supposed to mean, but who cares really. It's not near as sweet as their early covers for "Kill 'Em All", "And Justice For All" or "Master of Puppets" but it beats the heck out of the covers for "Load", "Reload", "The Black Album" and "St. Anger" so that's good.

James Hetfield talked about the album’s title: “It started out as kind of a tribute to people that have fallen in our business, like Layne Staley. Some people are drawn towards [death], just like a magnet, and other people are afraid of it and push away.”

Interesting.

The album will be the band's first to feature current bassist Robert Trujillo and the first to be produced by Rick Rubin. The release date isn't official yet that I know of, but it's supposed to be in September sometime.

Lastly, does the cover remind anyone of the old Fuzzy Face toy, or am I just so old that only I remember that? Do they even make those anymore? You could make the dude have a mustache (handlebar or Hitler), mullet, beard, goatee, hair, mohawk, soul patch or even a dirty sanchez if you wanted. It was really fun... for about 2 minutes. I remember taking them on road trips to play with in the backseat of the car, yes well before DVD or VHS players or even Gameboys. And yes I had to walk to school. Uphill both ways. Shuddup you.

I think the one I had was a "Dapper Dan", but he looked about the same. Except he was evil.

I hope the music on this album is like the cover art: better than the last few. There are a few good songs on each of the last 3 or 4 albums, but it used to be that an entire Metallica album was solid. I'm a little nervous about what direction Rubin has steered them. I anticipate a much harder album than what Bob Rock has put them through lately.

Dapper Dan! That sounds like the one I had. I don't remember him being evil, but figures that yours would be.

I agree, the last 3 (Load, Reload, St. Anger) all had songs I liked but overall left me wanting. I hope this album smashes my face in before I even get out of the store.
