Weekend Wrap

I had a pretty fun full weekend, despite the sweltering heat, and it wasn't because I sat in the A/C the whole time although in hindsight that seems like a pretty decent plan as well. On Friday night I went to an outdoor amphitheater to see Willie Nelson and B.B. King. We started out the night up in a tower overlooking the amphitheater so we had a pretty cool (free) view and a nice breeze circulating. Great place to watch the sunset as well. We watched most of B.B.'s set from up there and not being a big fan of his it was still a show I thought was pretty good. He's not real active, choosing to sit in a chair most of the time and just make his guitar wail. What is he now, like 104? For Willie we walked down among the masses and that turned the heat up with all the bodies and no breeze. Willie is another good show, but at his age his performance skills are pretty limited to just singing and making the occasional funny quip. He's got a great library of songs though and it was nice just to be down on the river on a hot Summer night listening to tunes from a legend and having a beer.

Saturday I did the ole trusty pub crawl, only choosing to hit the heat between stops. Someone should build an air-conditioned tunnel between all the pubs for maximum pub crawl fun. People joined the crawl, people left the crawl and it ended with 4 of us watching a band on the opposite side of the river from where it started. The trail in order was Sticky Fingerz, Boscos, Flying Saucer, Underground Pub, Rev Room, Willie D's, Creegans and finally Cornerstone before home. Good times.

I got up Sunday and did what every good American does on Sunday morning... watched all the stuff on TiVo that I missed on Friday and Saturday night! Actually I was just wanting to watch the EliteXC fights from Saturday night. I thought they were all very watchable fights too, with several good slugfests and lots of action for the most part. No outcomes were too shocking but even fights like Nick Diaz vs Thomas Denny that I thought would be one-sided turned out to be nice little brawls. Thomas Denny was game. I was glad to see Ruthless Robbie hold on to the title belt as well. The fight wasn't as good as their first meeting but it wasn't a bad fight by any means. After that I ventured back outside for a baptism at a local lake. No, I didn't get baptized but my niece did. The heat index was approximately 137 degrees so I can only imagine they do it this time of the year outdoors like that to deter people from hell. After all the sweating I hit the A/C again for my usual Sunday matinee, this time Hellboy 2.

Here's a few pics from some of the weekend just for the heck of it.

Benson & I sneaked in to a Willie show once. Of course by sneaked I mean we walked up to the door (of the Convo) and somebody let us in.
