New Queensryche Video

This is pretty interesting I think. It's from the new Queensryche CD, American Soldier, on which all the songs lyrical content tells the story of war from a firsthand perspective. Singer Geoff Tate has spent the last few years interviewing veterans from all conflicts America has been involved in from World War II to the Iraq War, including his own father [1] and collecting their stories in order to help him write the album. This is the first video, "If I Were King" and it's very cool and moving. Check out some of the lyrics:

I have so much more to say, my brother.
Can you hear me?
A fool is left to live as the brave ones fall.
I swear if I were able,
I would have done the same for you.
But now you're gone and I wish I were too.
I spend all my time asking questions,
How can I pay you back when
the price you paid was so high, my friends.
If I were King of all I imagine,
I would trade all I am
to have you by my side.

If you wrote these guys off as some 80s metal hair band, or even a 1 hit wonder for "Silent Lucidity", you've missed a lot of great music they've made over the years. And there's no doubt Geoff Tate can still wail.
