Phat Albert Gets NL Hitter of the Month

Man, this guy just keeps racking up awards. It's not that I have a man-crush on him or anything (or do I?), but he's just a freakin' stud. I've been a Cardinals fan for over 30 years and have seen some greats, and this dude is right at the top.

Here's the latest, with a link to the MLB.com article:

Pujols honored as April's top NL hitter

Albert Pujols, whose typically imposing April performance included hitting eight homers while striking out only seven times, received Sharp Presents the National League Player of the Month honors for the month for April.

St. Louis' seven-time All-Star first baseman accented his .337 average in April with 28 RBIs and 22 runs scored -- both figures leading the league. Pujols reached base in each of the 23 games in which he played, and knocked in his milestone 1,000th run on April 25.

He also walked 18 times and was 4 for 4 in stolen-base attempts.

Highlights of his month:

* On April 11, he hit the seventh grand slam of his career and drove in seven runs in a victory over Roy Oswalt and the Astros.

* On April 25 against the Cubs, he hit his eighth grand slam and reached the 1,000 career RBIs plateau.

* He had nine multi-hit games, eight multi-RBI games and two multi-homer games. Pujols reached base in every game he played in April.

Not bad for a guy who had elbow surgery in the offseason.
