More On The No-No

Angels’ Double-A pitcher throws no-hitter

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Angels minor-leaguer Ryan Brasier pitched a no-hitter in the Double-A Arkansas Travelers’ 4-0 victory over the Tulsa Drillers on Thursday night.

Brasier, a sixth-round pick by Los Angeles in 2007, struck out three and walked two — his only baserunners.

In the ninth inning, Brasier got Tulsa’s Matt Repec to ground out to third and Radames Nazario hit a fly ball to right field.

After a ball to Anthony Jackson on the first pitch, Brasier got two called strikes and Jackson then fouled off a pitch before grounding out to second base to end the game.

No-Hitter At Last

I've been to hundreds of minor and major league baseball games through the years, and you can even throw in lots of college games, and last night at Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock I witnessed something I've never seen. Ryan Brasier threw a 9-inning no-hitter. The first in the new park ever and the first in the Texas League since 2002. What a night! It was "Bark At the Park" night so lots of people brought their dogs, which was sort of entertaining in itself, and a full moon hovered over the stadium as he threw his gem. Awesome night.

It looks like that's my last game of the weekend as the forecast calls for storms the entire time, but at least 2 new films hit the theaters and 1 of them really makes me want to break my month long theaterless streak. Here's more on both:

Furry Vengeance

The Plot: A real estate developer (Brendan Fraser) looking to turn a forest into new homes faces some unusually tough competition: the local woodland creatures.
My Thoughts: Looks like a family/comedy flick that relies on slapstick humor... and from what I've seen it looks like it's going to suck. Take the kids though I guess, they might get a kick out of it.

A Nightmare on Elm Street

The Plot: Disfigured serial killer Freddy Krueger (Jackie Earle Haley) stalks a group of young people in their dreams, forcing them to remain awake as the only alternative to death.
My Thoughts: Seriously, this looks awesome. I've been following the progress for over a year and it's FINALLY in theaters so I'm going to definitely get out to see it. I watched all of the 8 films in the original series in the last month just to prepare. Jackie Earle Haley looks like a perfect pick for the new Freddy and from what I've seen, they're going more with real horror than the ridiculous comedy front-man that Freddy became in the series. Great news.

Movie Review: Dead Snow

Synopsis: A ski vacation turns horrific for a group of medical students, as they find themselves confronted by an unimaginable menace: Nazi zombies.

So, I got 3 words for ya... Norwegian Nazi Zombies. Yep. It's so on. All you really need to know is right there. This movie is pretty much The Evil Dead meets Zombieland, in the snowy mountains of Norway, with Nazis... and subtitles. Really, that's an apt comparison so you should know whether this film is for you or not. It's got that same sort of creepy, yet sort of funny at times, vibe without being a comedy. It's a nice balance of horror and comedy.

It's called Dead Snow (Død Snø) but I think the original name was "Red Snow" which I like a whole lot better actually, because there is boatloads of blood and gore. The effects don't try to steal the show but there is some pretty cool low-budget type gore. There are seemingly endless zombies coming from all over so there are a lot of kills and some pretty creative. There are several nods to many classic, but mainly the aforementioned The Evil Dead films. It plays more like an homage than a rip-off though.

Usually in a film like this, with the foreign language and subtitles, it's difficult to really get an appreciation for the acting or emotions but both are well done here. I really enjoyed the cast and their work.

And something you don't normally hear about movies like this... the cinematography is fantastic. I loved the setting in the snowy mountains and the director does a good job of showing it off.

So those wacky Norwegians do it again. Watch this back-to-back with Fritt Vilt (Cold Prey) and then join me in hoping more people from there take up the horror industry.

Wes Gets Stoned... Sort Of?

Well, the new Puddle of Mudd video for the song "Stoned" is very entertaining I think (I'd love to see this happen at my office) but my problem is, what the hell is Wes even saying? The MTV censors have apparently struck again, or maybe the record label decided this was best, but the word "stoned" is new completely mumbled (or maybe he says "get down" or something?).

Here's how it's supposed to go:

So check your attitude at the front door
I'm really getting tired of taking all of your shit while I'm sober
I'm thinking that I'd rather be stoned

See what you think:

Well, regardless... great song.

Puddle of Mudd will be on tour with Adelitas Way next month and will be apart of this summers “Carnival of Madness” tour with Shinedown, Sevendust, 10 Years and Chevelle.

She's My Kinda Girl

Chickenfoot! Terrible name, but when you make music like these guys who cares really? Here's the video for "My Kinda Girl" from the debut.

As a guest on "That Metal Show" on April 17th, 2010 Joe Satriani confirmed that a second Chickenfoot album was in the works, that he & Sammy Hagar had gotten together for several writing sessions, and that with any luck it would be released in 2010.

The Good Life Is What I Need

I really dig Three Days Grace lately. Here's the new video for their single “The Good Life” and I think it's an extremely catchy tune, plus I like the words.

"All I want is a little of the good life.
All I need is to have a good time, oh, the good life."

Amen my Canadian brothas.

I'd Tap That!

From GQ Magazine...

I'd Tap That! 50 Beers to Try Right Now
Drink your way through this list and you'll instantly raise your beer IQ

Best Beers To Try Now Wine + Cocktails: GQ.com

My Thoughts: Definitely some good beers on the list, many I haven't even tried and a few that made me scratch my head (Tecate?) because I wasn't that impressed by them. But it's a great cross-section of flavors and styles and I think if you weren't that up on your craft beer and you took the time over the next month and tried all 50 you'd definitely find some stuff you'll like. I'd love to be able to do that actually.

Here's some I really like and/or have had my share of on the list:

Oskar Blues Dales Pale Ale
Rogue Dead Guy Ale
Oskar Blues Old Chub
Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout
Stone Imperial Russian Stout
Stone Old Guardian
Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier

A Weekend At Home?

I needed a break from traveling and I got just what the doctor ordered this past weekend. I started with a (long) happy hour on Friday but that was about as social as I got the whole weekend, choosing to spend nearly the entire thing flying solo. I got up on Saturday and watched a couple of movies while the rain finished itself off, then got in a great run, hit my favorite area for some shopping and just being out and about a bit, then whipped up a big batch of honey-BBQ wings while sampling beer, watching sports and flicks and just chilling on the couch. That's a great Saturday in my book.

Sunday saw more of the same as I started it with a big bike ride down by the river to get my blood flowing, followed by a great lunch at my favorite restaurant, then an afternoon of napping, reading, watching sports and washing the car before firing up the grill for some awesome brats and ending it all with a cold brew in the hot tub. That's how you retreat for a weekend my friends. The only one I talked to for almost the entire weekend was my dog. I finished a book and got well started another, so you know I was relaxed.

Now it's time to launch the boat, dust off the tent and get prepared for the Summer. The Travs are home all week this week too, so there'll be baseball a plenty.

Another Cool Rock Doc

From the same people who did the awesome Iron Maiden: Flight 666 documentary last year now comes Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage. Looks like it's going to be at a few festivals, like Tribeca, and then on to a very small theatrical release, but it's television debut will be on June 26 on VH1 and VH1 Classic. I'll be holding out for the Blu-ray release myself.

I've always liked Rush, but was never a huge fan. Back in the 80s I bought Moving Pictures, Signals and Grace Under Pressure and considered myself a casual follower. Through the years I sort of lost touch with them but every time I hear Tom Sawyer or Fly By Night or Spirit of the Radio come up on my iPod I crank it. This trailer alone makes me want to break out their music and reacquaint myself with them, so I know the film itself is going get me on a Rush kick. Check it out for yourself:

Arkansans In the NFL Draft

How huge has the NFL draft gotten? It's a 3day long event, 2 in prime time, now with coverage out the wazoo on multiple channels. NFL off-season is bigger than some sports league's regular season (I'm looking at you NHL... strike on this). I've sat and watched it quite a bit myself just to see who the Steelers get and where the Arkansas boys go. Several Arkies got drafted and I figure a few will get signed as free agents this week, but and here's a quick look at guys in the first 7 rounds:

Alex Carrington - DE - 6'5 - 284
Connection: Played college ball at Arkansas St.
Round 3 - 8th pick (72nd overall) by the Buffalo Bills
National Football Post: An explosive interior pass rusher who has the ability to slip blocks and make his way up the field. However, Carrington can be overpowered vs. the run and struggles when asked to be stout in a phone booth.

Damian Williams - WR - 6'1 - 190
Connection: Transferred to USC after 1 year at University of Arkansas, played high school football in Springdale, AR
Round 3 - 13th pick (77th overall) by the Tennessee Titans
National Football Post: A smooth, coordinated wideout who lacks a great burst in and out of his breaks. Williams catches the ball well and has a real polish to his game, but he doesn't look explosive or physical enough to play on the outside in the NFL.

Larry Hart - DE - 6'1 - 248
Connection: Played college football at University of Central Arkansas
Round 5 - 12th pick (143rd overall) to the Jacksonville Jaguars
National Football Post: Hart is a small-school defensive end who will make the move to OLB. He possesses a good first step and adds some versatility to the Jags' front seven.

Mitch Petrus - G - 6'4 - 315
Connection: Played at the University of Arkansas
Round 5 - 16th pick (147th overall) by the New York Giants
National Football Post: An athletic guard who does a great job getting out to the second level and chopping down defenders in space. However, he struggles when asked to slide his feet and anchor vs. the pass.

So 1 from UA, 1 former UA, 1 from UCA and 1 from ASU... not a big year for the state. We'll rebound next year I think, led by top 10 pick (hell, maybe #1 overall pick) QB Ryan Mallett.

Speaking of QBs, real nice move going pro early Jevan Snead [/sarcasm]. He didn't even get drafted, but did at least get signed by Tampa Bay as a free agent. The kid could definitely use another year in school and if he returned to the form he had 2 years ago, could have been an easy first rounder. Hard for me to blame him much though, I hated going to college too.

Hang In There Bret

I'm actually seriously bummed about Bret Michaels having some life-threatening health problems at the moment. I hope he has a full recovery and continues rocking for many years. I've seen Poison 5 different times since the 80s and always dug their stuff. I think they're a fun party band. I've never met Bret, but I have met C.C. and Rikki both. Also one of my guilty pleasures has been Bret's Rock of Love show on VH1. I know it's trash TV, but it's just so much stupid fun.

Get well Bret.

Book Reviews: Sex Money Kiss

Sex Money KISS
by Gene Simmons

Synopsis: Exhibiting an abiding faith in self and an ability to think outside the traditional parameters of ethics, religion, rituals and social mores, rock legend and Kiss founding member Simmons offers his no holds barred life philosophy. Presenting the book as access to the American dream of money and happiness, Simmons recounts his rise from an immigrant boy who did not speak English until his teens and paid for college buying and selling old comic books, to his current music, recording, acting and publishing successes. Simmons touches on a range of topics, including investment advice, his brief stint as a teacher and behind the scenes Kiss business negotiations.

I've been a KISS fan as long as I can remember, and I really respect Gene for what he's accomplished in his life and I've shoveled plenty of my money into his deep pockets, but let's face it... he's an ass. This book will do nothing to dispel any thoughts of that, nor does it try to. Gene tells it like it is and gives his opinions on topics, mainly around the subject of "how to get money and keep it." He's as brash and arrogant as ever... but the guy knows of which he speaks. I don't agree with a lot of what he says but that doesn't make it any less interesting to hear his take on things.

Negatives? He bashes on Ace and Peter (as usual) and even if they deserve it and it's all true... enough already. We get it; they're idiots. There wasn't a whole lot about Paul either, but it is Gene's book I guess. He only briefly touches on KISS' history and music, choosing to talk more about their merchandising and all his behind the scenes sort of moves to keep the profits coming in. My biggest annoyance with the book though is that there are little "asides" sort of in their own boxes where he might go on about a topic, but during the actual reading of the book he says a lot of what was said in the aside. It's sort of hard to explain I guess, it just annoyed me that I was reading the same thing twice often. Minor issues though.

It's a decent read, but nothing mind-blowing. If you don't want to read it for yourself, I'll help you out with these things right from the noggin' of The Demon himself:

* The harder you work, the luckier you'll get.

* Time is money.

* Never get married.

* Avoid alcohol and drugs.

* Nothing will come to you. You have to go after it.

* Dumb men will always get married. So will smart women.

* Originality is highly overrated.

* Keep your eyes and ears open.

So read it if you're a KISS fan of course but also you might find it enjoyable if you're seeking a method to financial success or just chasing some sort of dream... rock star, actor, entrepreneur or just the dream of being rich. You might pick-up on some ideals you'll find useful, if you can ignore or laugh at some of Gene's silly and at times ridiculous posturing. It's hard to argue with his results though.

Superfights Tonight

I'm sort of torn on this one tonight. There's some great fights on the card for WEC 48, but this is the first time they've made a WEC event pay-per-view. There are just so many free fights on nowadays that I hate paying for a PPV at all unless some guys are over and we split it, but damned if I want to start paying for fights that up until now have been free. But... it's a great card and I really want to see it. I mean the top 2 fights on the card, Aldo vs Faber and Henderson vs Cerrone, could both very well be not only fights of the year but a couple of the best fights in WEC history. Why can't this be on cable TV dammit!??!

Here's more:

WEC 48: Aldo vs. Faber

Main Card (Pay-per-view)

* Champ Jose Aldo vs. Urijah Faber (for featherweight title)
* Champ Benson Henderson vs. Donald Cerrone (for lightweight title)
* Mike Brown vs. Manny Gamburyan
* Anthony Njokuani vs. Shane Roller
* Antonio Banuelos vs. Scott Jorgensen

Prelims on Spike TV:

* Leonard Garcia vs. Chan Sung Jung
* Alex Karalexis vs. Anthony Pettis

The Power Of Toys Compels You

I found this on Figures.com. Check out this sweet collectible from one of my favorite movies of all-time, The Exorcist:

Now I'm not really sure why anybody would want this, or what they'd do with it for that matter... but damn it's cool. Would you want that sitting on your dresser so you could wake up to a noise in the middle of the night and see it? Or what if you were awakened to a voice saying "Your mother's in here, Karras. Would you like to leave a message? I'll see that she gets it." Yeah, not good.

Here's more from the link:

That time has come as select retailers are now accepting pre-orders on this eagerly awaited set (available for pre-order now at ToyWiz.com). Slated for release this fall (September/October) priced for under $39.99, the Deluxe Electronic EXORCIST Box Set will feature motorized head spinning action and will play sounds from the classic 1973 horror film.

Split pea soup not included. Sleepless nights guaranteed.

Indeed.

The Loser Plan

The best thing about this weekend is that I'm not going anywhere. I need a good weekend at the Casa Cracker to just chill out and catch up on a few things. It's supposed to be rainy and stormy today and tomorrow too, so I see some good reading, game playing and movie watching in my immediate future in between laundry and such. Sounds perfect.

I love my Steelers pick in the 1st round of the draft, as they went with 6-foot-4, 305-pound center Maurkice (pronounced Mahr-KEECE) Pouncey from the University of Florida. I love the SEC kids and I love winners, and he's both. The Steelers have a great history of awesome, pro-bowl centers (Hall of Famer Mike Webster (9 pro bowls) and Dermontti Dawson (7 pro bowls) ring any bells?) but looks like he'll start at the guard position. Now if they can just grab a solid defensive back...

3 new movies launch for the weekend and it's a nice mix of rom-com, action and educational. Check 'em out:

The Back-Up Plan

The Plot: Single gal Zoe (Jennifer Lopez) meets potential husband Stan (Alex O'Loughlin) on the day of her artificial insemination. Despite the initial spark, the two lovers begin to wonder if they're taking the right steps to an enduring romance.
My Thoughts: Oh lord, Matthew McConaughey must have been busy. And no Dane Cook either? Bizarre. Ho hum, yet another chick flick. I'm guessing they fall in love at the end. Call it a hunch.

Oceans (opened 4/22)

The Plot: An ecological drama/documentary, filmed throughout the globe. Part thriller, part meditation on the vanishing wonders of the sub-aquatic world.
My Thoughts: Disneynature's second big release, after huge success with The Cove last year. As hot as these type of shows are right now (see "Life" currently on TV) this might do OK in the long haul. I've read that this has some of the most amazing footage ever captured of the oceans that surround us. I'm sold.

The Losers

The Plot: After being betrayed and left for dead on a mission in the Bolivian jungle, the members of a CIA black ops team root out those who targeted them for assassination.
My Thoughts: Another adaptation of a comic (this one by the awesome Andy Diggle) this looks to do better than Kick-Ass as it's got a PG-13 rating, and also has a bit more crossover appeal than say Watchmen I'd guess. Zoe Saldana is in it and I love her, so there's that. Judging from the trailer this looks like a whole lot of big, dumb fun.

Sevendust To Spartacus

Dang I've been busy. Besides logging about 1,500 miles on my car in the last 3 weeks between New Orleans, Little Rock and Nashville (and around Memphis) I've been using my season tickets to the Travs' game pretty well. I went to 3 of the 6 games in the first home stand... not too bad. I'm sort of thankful they're out of town for a week though so I can catch up yardwork, housework, reading, DVR etc... you know, the important stuff. Also it's about time to clean, fuel up and launch my boat ("Sweet Amber") for the year. The next nice weather weekend should see me up there firing up the grill and the tunes and getting things ready for another awesome Summer. I've got to get the tent out this weekend too and make sure some parts didn't mysteriously disappear or something.

Caught the season finale of Spartacus: Blood & Sand over the weekend and I must say, one of the best season finales of all-time. Awesome bloodletting and such. This has become one of my favorite shows on TV and I'm really looking forward to another season next year, which I hear is in production. I'm going to re-watch the whole 1st season on Blu-ray just as soon as that sucker hits the shelves, you can bet.

Lots of new stuff out yesterday to catch up on, and I'll start it with one of my favorite bands...

* Sevendust ~ "Cold Day Memory" CD (see more here)

* Airbourne ~ "No Guts, No Glory" CD (AC/DC style party rock from down under... see more here)

* Cypress Hill ~ "Rise Up" (release on 4-20... get it? guests include Tom Morello, Mike Shinoda, Daron Malakian, Marc Anthony, Pitbull, Everlast, Young De, Evidence, The Alchemist, Cheech & Chong)

* Ratt ~ "Infestation" CD (first studio album in 11 years... see more here)

* AC/DC ~ "Iron Man 2" CD/DVD (15 songs from AC/DC's back catalog from 1976 to 2008)

* Motörhead ~ "Motörhead: The Early Years" DVD

* The Lovely Bones DVD (drama/fantasy with Mark Wahlberg)

* 44 Inch Chest DVD (crime/drama)

* Avatar DVD (comes out tomorrow... see my review here)

Sevendust Unravels

Here's the new Sevendust video for their song "Unraveling" off the new CD Cold Day Memory, which came out today. This album marks the return of guitarist Clint Lowery who previously left Sevendust in 2003 to work with Dark New Day.

Cypress Hill Get Loco With Jimmy

Cypress Hill was on Jimmy Kimmel with the awesome Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave) playing guitar to promote their new CD which drops today, Rise Up. They played 2 songs, "Rise Up" and the classic "Insane In The Brain":

Seasons After Channel The Lost Boys

Seasons After have debuted their “Cry Little Sister” music video on MTV.com and you can see it below. If it sounds familiar, maybe it's because it's a remake of the classic song by Gerard McMahon and Michael Mainieri which was originally released on the 1987 soundtrack album from the awesome vampire flick The Lost Boys.

Strikeforce Invades Nashville... And So Do I

It'll be a quick trip to Nashville today as I'm bailing town this morning for the 5 hour drive and getting there just in time to check into the hotel, run around a little bit, and head to the Strikeforce show... aptly named Strikeforce: Nashville. It'll be easier for you to catch it as it's live on CBS tonight. Watch for me, I'm in the 3rd row on the risers so maybe you can see me. Since it's on network TV the card should be finished by 10:00 PM give or take (with 3 title fights... it's hard to say) so surely we'll get some time to run around downtown a bit after the show. I'd love to get to one of my favorite bars, The Beer Seller, for a couple of cold draft Stone brews.

There are 3 huge title fights are at the top of the card:

* Champ Jake Shields vs. Dan Henderson (for middleweight title)
* Champ Gegard Mousasi vs. Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal (for light heavyweight title)
* Champ Gilbert Melendez vs. Shinya Aoki (for Strikeforce lightweight title)

I'll go with one of my favorite fighters, Dan Henderson, to KO Shields and take the belt in round 2, Mousasi over King Mo by a later round submission and Melendez over Aoki by KO in about the 2nd or 3rd round.

One thing is for sure, I'm getting to add some great fighters (I've already seen Shields choke out Robbie Lawler) to the long list of guys I've seen fight live... which already includes BJ Penn, Tito Ortiz, Wanderlei Silva, Lyota Machida, Shane Carwin, Robbie Lawler, Nick Diaz, Phil Baroni, Andrei Arlovski, Kevin Randleman, Brett Rogers, Vito Belfor, Rich Franklin, Junior Dos Santos, Mike Swick, Josh Koscheck, Frank Trigg, Tyson Griffin and others. A virtual who's who of MMA stars!

The undercard doesn't blow me away but that's just because I'm not familiar with many of the guys. Bully Beatdown's Jason "Mayhem" Miller (went the distance with GSP in the UFC, has fought in WEC and Dream) and Cale Yarbrough (he was on TUF season 7 and fought once in the UFC, getting smashed by Tim Credeur, and hasn't lost since) are both on there so it could be fun.

Here's some vids:

Taproot is Back!

I've liked Taproot since one of my buddies turned me on to them about 10 years when the CD "Gift" was out. I bought that one and every CD since and there has been some great songs on them (Calling, Poem and Birthday just to name 3) but this is the best track I've heard from them in quite a few years. The track is called "Fractured (Everything I Said Was True)" and it's from their new album "Plead the Fifth" which drops May 11th. I'm now officially excited for it.

Death At A Kick-Ass Funeral

I made it out to my first ballgame of the year last night, only to see the Travelers get demolished by Midland 11-1. Looking at the bright side though, they did get 1 more hit (5) than they had errors (4) so that's a plus. Seriously, it was an absolutely perfect night for a baseball game, ugly as the game was, and I really enjoyed sitting in my new front row season seats with a couple of buddies, a cold Diamond Bear Pale Ale and a big Pig N Chik BBQ pork sammich. Awesome. There'll be plenty more games as I expect to get my money's worth from the seats and hit at least 30 games, including tonight.

I'm really falling behind in my theater going, which will happen when you have full weekend plans every weekend. I've got the ballgame tonight and will be in Nashville tomorrow and Sunday so this weekend is no different. That doesn't mean you can go catch one of these 2 new films opening though and tell me how they are.

Death At A Funeral

The Plot: A patriarch's funeral leads to a series of family arguments, revealing dark secrets and possibly murder.
My Thoughts: Not sure what to make of this dark ensemble comedy, but it stars Martin Lawrence, Tracy Morgan and Chris Rock who are all pretty hilarious at times so it may be worth a rental someday.

Kick-Ass

The Plot: Despite the fact that he has zero superpowers, teenage fanboy Dave Lizewski looks to reincarnate himself as a crime-fighting superhero named Kick-Ass, a decision that will inspire a subculture of copy cats, put his life in danger, and unite him with a similarly minded father-daughter duo.
My Thoughts: Finally, this adaptation of the comic by Mark Millar (the guy behind Wanted) is out. If you see the trailer it almost looks like a kid's movie. Here's what you need to know... Rated R for strong brutal violence throughout, pervasive language, sexual content, nudity and some drug use - some involving children. This ain't no kids movie. And it looks really cool. Expect it to make a lot of money and also expect a sequel.

A Reminder From The Beatles

They sure don't make 'em like they used to. This is awesome... from 1967, the Beatles dream they are back in the time of Merry Olde England, and try to pay Ringo's whopping tax bill with the aid of Robin Hood and that swingin' hepcat, Little John! The song "Taxman" starts about the 2:30 mark...

Godsmack Get In The Cage

Holy crap this is the greatest video ever! There are lots of UFC fighters from BJ Penn to Brock Lesnar to Randy Couture to Chuck Liddell and plenty of highlight clips in the new video from Godsmack for their song "Cryin' Like a Bitch" seen below. The band will release their new album "The Oracle" on May 4th.

This marks Godsmack's record-breaking 18th Top 10 single of their career.

Movie Review: Kill Theory

Synopsis: Whilst celebrating a graduation at a secluded vacation home, a group of college students find themselves targeted by a sadistic killer who forces them to play a deadly game of killing one another in order to survive.

While it's really more a slasher movie, this does have sort of a Saw feel to it with the killer communicating via recorded messages and walkie-talkie and such. But the movie is nothing like the Saw series other than that. And I say killer like there's only one, but it turns out that really the killers are the students turning on one another. A lot of human psychology comes into play as to who is going to die next and who will turn on the others and so forth. It's all actually quite interesting character study.

It's a pretty cheaply done film that was picked up by After Dark Films for their Horrorfest and DVD releases but it doesn't really look like it. It's well shot, well acted and feels like a much bigger release. I thought the overall feel of it reminded me of many of the 90s slashers like I Know What You Did and Scream. There were no "big name" stars of course but most of the young actors have solid performances, like Patrick Flueger (The 4400), Taryn Manning (Sons of Anarchy) and Teddy Dunn (Veronica Mars). I felt like their character's reactions were pretty realistic and believable, like sometimes these movies aren't.

Obviously there's plenty of violence and blood, but nothing over-the-top really and it doesn't rely on that. Well, perhaps 1 scene with a shovel...

This isn't mind-blowing great or anything, but it's a smart little slasher film worth a watch. I loved the reveal at the end as well. Nice touch.
