New Korn Video

Here's Korn's music video for the song "Oildale (Leave Me Alone)" from the upcoming album ‘Korn III: Remember Who You Are’, which is due out July 13th.

Memorial Day

Today is the day that commemorates U.S. men and women who died while in the military service. Here are some great quotes and such for Memorial Day. Crank this video by Zakk Wylde as he plays a great acoustic version of "America The Beautiful" as you read through these.

Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice. Moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue. -Senator Barry Goldwater

Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves. -William Pitt

Chance has never yet satisfied the hope of a suffering people. Action, self-reliance, the vision of self and the future have been the only means by which the oppressed have seen and realized the light of their own freedom. -Marcus Garvey

In war, there is no prize for the runner-up. -General Omar Bradley

So long as there are men there will be wars. -Albert Einstein

I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones. -Albert Einstein

The cost of liberty is less than the cost of repression. -Web Dubois

The purpose of all war is ultimately peace. -Saint Augustine

And I'm proud to be an American, where at least I know I'm free, and I won't forget the men who died, who gave that right to me and I'll proudly stand next to him to defend her still today, 'cuz there ain't no doubt I love this land, god bless the USA. -Lee Greenwood

Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty. -John F. Kennedy
Future years will never know the seething hell and the black infernal background, the countless minor scenes and interiors of the secession war; and it is best they should not. The real war will never get in the books. -Walt Whitman

As I approach the gates of heaven;
St. Peter I will tell;
One more soldier reporting sir;
I've served my time in hell. -Mark Anthony Gresswell

The story of America's quest for freedom is inscribed on her history in the blood of her patriots. -Randy Vader

The dead soldier's silence sings our national anthem. -Rev. Aaron Kilbourn

When we say "War is over if you want it," we mean that if everyone demanded peace instead of another TV set, we'd have peace. -John Lennon

Peace is more important than all justice; and peace was not made for the sake of justice, but justice for the sake of peace. -Martin Luther

I think that, as life is action and passion, it is required of a man that he should share the passion and action of his time at peril of being judged not to have lived. -Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr.

The greatest glory of a free-born people is to transmit that freedom to their children. -William Havard

STP on JKL Part 2

Stone Temple Pilots were on Jimmy Kimmel Live for a 2nd night in a row Thursday night (1st night post) and here's the videos to prove it! They played 2 songs again, one off the new CD, "Hickory Dichotomy", and one classic from the catalog, "Vasoline" (my favorite STP song).

Finally... Rampage vs Rashad Tonight

It seems like this war has been brewing forever, but finally tonight's the UFC brings us some serious black-on-black crime as Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and "Sugar" Rashad Evans hook it up at UFC 114. This grudge match is just 2 guys that flat out hate each other. I personally think Rashad is winning the verbal war and getting in the head of Rampage, or at least it seemed that way on last season's The Ultimate Fighter show. I'm also picking Rashad to win the fight.

Oh yeah, there are other fights too:

* Michael Bisping vs. Dan Miller
* Todd Duffee vs. Mike Russow
* Jason Brilz vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
* John Hathaway vs. Diego "Nightmare" Sanchez

Let's see, I hate Bisping and love Duffee so I'm interested in those fights too, and Diego Sanchez usually brings it so that'll be fun as John Hathaway is no walk in the park. All-in-all a really good card and I wish I was getting the PPV.

Enjoy some hype:

Movie Review: Cabin Fever 2

Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever

Synopsis: A high school prom faces a deadly threat: a flesh-eating virus that spreads via a popular brand of bottled water.

I'm actually a pretty big fan of the original Cabin Fever, but the difference is that writer/director Eli Roth is nowhere to be found here. This one tries to keep that same sense of horror/comedy going but fails at pretty much every turn.

It does a good job of establishing a sort of a "throw back" feel of the 80s really and if you like sick, disgusting, puss and vomit and such... you're in luck. It goes for gross-out and hits it's mark there, but I sort of like my grossness to be fun and this one feels just more like disgusting and unpleasant. The same can be said for all the characters, which I hated, except for Noah Segan in the lead role. He's the only character I didn't hate after 2 minutes of screen time. Plot wise, it's an incoherent mess.

But my biggest annoyance with it I guess is the animated opening and closing sequences. I've read some people liked them, but I thought it was just lazy. They try to move the story along and show us things that are going on with the bottled water or virus or whatever, and it just seems stupid and out of place to me. I didn't like it, especially at the end. It's like they just can't decide if the movie is a total farce or what. It wants to be dark comedy, but has cartoon sequences?

But I was mildly entertained for 80-plus minutes, and again there's a lot of gross-out stuff if that's your thing. Otherwise I'd suggest skipping this sequel.

3.5/10

And So It Begins...

I don't care what the "official" word is, Summer starts for me on Memorial Day weekend. The theaters are packed with new blockbusters and waiting on more, most of the TV shows are on hiatus so you'll get outside, the lakes are hopping and I'm working furiously to try to get in swimsuit shape. Ah Summer. How I've missed you. The beer is colder and the air is muggier it seems. Let's start it.

I'll be at Riverfest tonight for both the Gary Allan and Cross Canadian Ragweed sets and I might catch a little bit of The Little River Band while I'm there. Tomorrow we're off to the lake to kick the boat off, then back for the Trav's game and following that up with hopefully some Uncle Kracker, Lucero, Blake Shelton, Jimmy Wayne and The Black Crowes back at Riverfest. Back to the lake Sunday then home for a cook-out Sunday evening. The hot tub is clean and fresh, I'm mowing the yard after work today and the grill is clean and ready. It's on.

Oh yeah, there's also this:

The first game in the best rivalry in baseball is this afternoon, then afternoon games on Saturday and Sunday. Hopefully the Cards can build on a nice little offensive output last night and the end of Pujols' RBI and HR "slump". If he gets hot like he can... oh boy. The Cubs are throwing Wells, Carlos Silva and Dempster for the 3 games so that's a solid trio. Should be a blast.

And there's a UFC PPV tomorrow night! I'm going to have to skip it though, too much going on already.

Despite the fact that I'm way behind at the theaters (haven't been in nearly 2 months... unheard of for me) I'm still watching the new openings and hoping I can work something in. Here's what's out:

Sex and the City 2

The Plot: While wrestling with the pressures of life, love, and work in Manhattan, Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte join Samantha for a trip to Morocco, where Samantha's ex is filming a new movie.
My Thoughts: I never saw the first one, never will, and this one sounds just as horrible for anyone with a penis to view.

Survival of the Dead

The Plot: National Guardsmen, thinking they have found refuge from a zombie army on an island off the coast of Delaware, soon realize they've wedged themselves between two warring families who differ on what should become of the undead.
My Thoughts: I love George Romero, but lately his films have been better suited as direct-to-video really. I'm going to treat this one as such too. It's great to see another "...Of The Dead" from him, but hardly something to get excited about (unless maybe it was near Halloween).

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

The Plot: Set in medieval Persia, a rogue prince (Jake Gyllenhaal) joins a mysterious princess (Gemma Arterton) in an effort to prevent a dark force from obtaining an ancient dagger that allows its handler to rule the world.
My Thoughts: This all seems pretty much like deja vu from about 10 other "swords and sandals" films. I'll probably wait and just rent this one.

American Bang is Wild and Young

Another new video from American Bang, this one for "Wild And Young", the theme song from WWE NXT.

Back From Vegas

Yes I made it back from my 11th trip to Las Vegas all in 1 piece, but I gotta say I'm really beat. We had a helluva time though, maybe the best ever. For a change I wasn't even ready to come home on Monday and had plenty of money left. Shocker.

We saw 5 different bands during 3 different shows... Sin City Sinners on Friday night at Fremont Street... Foreigner, Kansas and Styx at Mandalay Bay on Saturday night... and the awesome Steel Panther at the House of Blues on Saturday night after the classic rock triple header. All shows were great. I had no idea Steel Panther was playing there until we were walking by on the way to Burger Bar and I saw a sign. We instantly grabbed tickets and squeezed in to a packed house around midnight for a killer show. Hands down one of the raunchiest and most entertaining bands you will ever see. Highly recommended.

Back to the classic rock show, the only bad news was that for Foreigner, founding member Mick Jones was a no-show. In his place though was Doug Aldrich, so despite the fact that is technically not really a Foreigner show but a (very) talented tribute band, they completely rocked ass. Kelly Hansen is an awesome vocalist and the band was really tight. They played mostly their massive hits in their 1 hour set, like "Urgent", "Juke Box Hero", "Hot Blooded" and "Double Vision" but they also dropped a couple of songs from their new CD.

Wanna talk about my love for the 80s type bands... on the weekend as a whole between all the bands I got to see Brent Muscat (Faster Pussycat), Jimmy Crespo (Aerosmith), Kelly Hansen (Hurricane), Tommy Shaw (Damn Yankees/Styx), Doug Aldrich (Whitesnake), Jeff Pilson (Dokken) and Rob Cournoyer (Raging Slab). Also we went to Sammy Hagar's restaurant so that's something, watched a KISS video tribute on the ceiling of Freemont Street and a saw a band that's straight-up hair metal Steel Panther.

Styx was great as well. I guess it's the first time I've seen them in over a decade, but I saw them 3 times in the early 80s alone. They sounded good and had a great stage show. Tommy Shaw has always been one of my favorite musicians. Here's their setlist from the show:

Borrowed Time / Mr. Roboto / Rockin' The Paradise
The Grand Illusion
Too Much Time On My Hands
Lady
Lorelei
High Enough (Damn Yankees cover)
Suite Madame Blue
Fooling Yourself (Angry Young Man)
Miss America
Come Sail Away (dedicated to Ronnie James Dio)
* Encore Break *
Blue Collar Man (Long Nights)
Renegade

We spent most of Sunday just wandering around the strip shopping and gambling. We watched the fountains at The Bellagio and drank beer at both Sin City Brewing locations while working in some blackjack and slots, which I actually did well at both. It was a bit chilly out and we found a nice bar with some outside tables that had fire going in the middle, so we hung there a bit away from the gambling. The Suns beating the Lakers on Sunday night topped my winnings for the weekend off.

Many more stories and much fun to go into, but I'll spare you and just drop a few photos.

Song For A Legend

Hell yes! Check this out from Norwegian rocker Jørn Lande. It's called "Song for Ronnie James" and it's taken from the album "Dio". Out on July the 2nd 2010 on Frontiers Records. Count how many Dio songs he references.

Viva Part 2

Good first day in Las Vegas after a pretty bumpy plane ride (one of the worst I've been on it some time... really windy out here). We started out at the newest Sin City Brewing location inside the Flamingo and played some video blackjack, then walked all the way down the strip sightseeing a people watching until we grabbed a cab at the Riviera.

We got down to Fremont Street and caught a couple of sets by the Sin City Sinners (Jimmy Crespo from Aerosmith sat in on guitar) and watched some cool video shows on the ceiling, including a great KISS themed one and a couple more from The Doors and Don McClean's American Pie. I love those video shows. Bought the new Sin City Sinners CD after one set.

We at some dinner at Triple 7 Restaurant and Brewery in Main Street Station and had some awesome oysters and sushi (great combination aye) while I washed them down with a Blackjack Porter from their microbrewery, which I must say was excellent. We got a couple to go even (the beer, not the sushi) and closed out the night on Fremont before cabbing it back to the strip to close it out with some one-armed bandits. Somehow I won, which I never do on slots. I usually just play to kill time and get free drinks. I ended up just clowning for a bit for drinks and pocketed a few extra 20s before it was over.

Somewhere in there we had a huge stack of pizza nachos at The Burger Joint and were talked in to "Washington Apple" shots by girls in skimpy outfits.

Excellent kick-off to the weekend. More Sin City Brewing today along with a trip down to New York, New York and Mandalay Bay. We've decided to go to the Styx, Foreigner and Kansas show tonight, so it should be another great day.

Viva Las Vegas

Looks like a beautiful day to fly to Las Vegas. So I will.

Nothing really concrete planned for today after we arrive. Probably go see Big Elvis at Bill's Gambling Hall for happy hour, then hit Sin City Brewing and finish the night off at Freemont Street Experience watching the Sin City Sinners. All tentative I guess, because well, ya never know out there.

We're thinking about catching Styx, Foreigner and Kansas tomorrow night at Mandalay Bay though. Classic rock me! The same venue I saw Metallica and Machine Head last December when I was out there. I'm guessing there won't be as much head-banging this time around.

Slayer Invades Jimmy Kimmel Live

Slayer was on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night playing "Hate Worldwide" and "World Painted Blood" featuring plenty of headbanging and mosh pits. Slayer!
