Synopsis: Eons after the Gods won their mythic struggle against the Titans, a new evil threatens the land. Mad with power, King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) has declared war against humanity. Amassing a bloodthirsty army of soldiers disfigured by his own hand, Hyperion has scorched Greece in search of the legendary Epirus Bow, a weapon of unimaginable power forged in the heavens by Ares. Only he who possesses this bow can unleash the Titans, who have been imprisoned deep within the walls of Mount Tartaros since the dawn of time and thirst for revenge. In the king's hands, the bow would rain destruction upon mankind and annihilate the Gods. But ancient law dictates the Gods must not intervene in man's conflict. They remain powerless to stop Hyperion...until a peasant named Theseus (Henry Cavill) comes forth as their only hope. Secretly chosen by Zeus, Theseus must save his people from Hyperion and his hordes. Rallying a band of fellow outsiders-including visionary priestess Phaedra (Freida Pinto) and cunning slave Stavros (Stephen Dorff)-one hero will lead the uprising, or watch his homeland fall into ruin and his Gods vanish into legend. If you read that whole synopsis and it sounded cool to you, you'll like this movie. It's an all fanboy/geek movie with an emphasis on style. The story is pretty generic and the storytelling itself isn't anything special, but that's probably not why you're watching. It would be nice though. You want cool, stylized action or you wouldn't have gotten past the previews, and you get it delivered to you.
It's a combination of sets and a lot of CGI so everything looks pretty cool. Pretty much anytime the storytelling got to bore me a bit there would be a burst of action and craziness to pick me up again. I saw the style described as a "comic-book-come-to-life" as that's perfect. It's sort of Clash of the Titans meets 300 with a splash of Spartacus (the TV show).
So visually it's satisfying and it delivers the thrills, action and violence... it's just that for some it's not going to be enough to get over the boring, somewhat silly, story. It's a big, dumb action epic that's quite the bloodbath at times. If you don't mind action over emotion then you'll probably be OK.
