Movie Review: Chronicle

Synopsis: Three high school students make an incredible discovery, leading to their developing uncanny powers beyond their understanding. As they learn to control their abilities and use them to their advantage, their lives start to spin out of control, and their darker sides begin to take over.

An interesting take on the whole super-hero origin genre really, like what if Peter Parker had been a typical smart-ass teen? I thought the script was really smart and sharp... fresh even. Rare in movies today. The pace of the movie was also excellent as you just jump right in and keep going, highlighted by a wild finish. It's also a satisfactory finish, with a solid conclusion.

I never had heard of any of the 3 lead actors but thought they all did a nice job acting like "real" teens... a bit annoying at times but overall pretty fun, decent kids. Kids with real world problems.

What's not to like? I hated the fact that it was a lot of the "found footage" type shooting. There's really no reason for it and they seem to abandon it some of the time as they come up with a "floating camera" to film with. It's just needless to me and added nothing, but did often subtract from what was happening.

Overall though I thought it to be a fine sci-fi romp, semi-serious at times which lightens the mood so it doesn't seem too silly.

Just remember... "with great power comes great responsibility."

I think if Peter Parker had been in the shoes of one of these kids Spider-Man would have turned out completely different. I like each character for what they contributed individually. My small circle of co-workers from Dish and I are all movie buffs who love the paranormal, we saw this movie when it first came out in theaters and loved it. Now that the Blu-ray is available from Blockbuster @Home, I would really like to see the movie again; I’m sure I missed quite a bit the first time. I like to take my time; without late fees I can do that much easier now. Andre, telekinesis has always fascinated me as an unknown power possibly hidden in the vast unknown of the mind. Seeing Chronicle just amplifies my desire to learn more about it.
