Fail Compilation for May 2012

From the fine folks at YourDailyLaughz comes their May Fail Compilation full of the usual assortment of stupidity and accidents. Be prepared for skateboarding, bicycling and drunkedness. My personal favorite this month? The girl at 2:30 trying to dunk a basketball off a chair. Brilliant. And of course... crotch shots! Yay!

Movie Review: Cars 2

Synopsis: Star race car Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) and his pal Mater (Larry The Cable Guy) head overseas to compete in the World Grand Prix race. But the road to the championship becomes rocky as Mater gets caught up in an intriguing adventure of his own: international espionage.

Did Mater get on your nerves in the first Cars movie? If he did, you better ignore this one cause it's The Mater Show. In Europe. With spies. Mater is a great character and all, but to me he's better in smaller does. He becomes sort a Jar-Jar Binks on wheels in this one. What did this need to prevent that? Well, better new characters and more Lightning McQueen would have helped.

But if you liked the first one you'll probably find this one very watchable as well. The story is pretty thin but visually it's as awesome as most Disney/Pixar movies. Most of these are aimed a bit more at adults than this one though, and I can't imagine anyone but kids really going wild over it.

It's not that it's bad, it's entertaining and great to look at, it's just really nothing that memorable and I expect Pixar to knock everything out of the park I guess. There's plenty of action to be found for sure, but I was just never engaged in the story. I find vehicles not as cute or exciting as furry creatures or whatever else Pixar has chosen to animate I guess.

The Final Countdown Acoustic

You know the song... everybody knows the freakin' song! Since it came out in 1986 it's been played approximately 8 trillion times at sporting events across the world and I have no guess as to how many video games it's been featured in now. It was number 1 in 25 different countries for the record.

Here's Europe's "The Final Countdown" in a way you've probably never heard though, and these guys can actually still play it well and sound fantastic in my opinion.

Joey Tempest and John Norum of EUROPE perform "The Final Countdown" during an acoustic set for German radio (SWR 1) on Tuesday May 29th 2012.

Movie Review: 11-11-11

Synopsis: After the tragic death of his wife and child, famed American author Joseph Crone travels from the United States to Barcelona, Spain to reunite with his estranged brother and dying father. However, fate has a different plan for Joseph as his life becomes plagued with strange happenings, and the constant sightings of the number 11. Curiosity quickly turns to obsession, and Joseph soon realizes that this number holds a horrific meaning not only to himself but possibly to all of religion. Joseph soon realizes that 11/11/11 is more than just a date, it's a WARNING.

Here's another warning: the only scares in this movie are few and far between and the plot is just silly.

I think I know what happened here... some Hollywood executives got together and decided the date 11/11/11 (which is actually 11/11/2011... 11/11/11 happened 2000 years ago) would be a cool gimmick for a movie, so they had Darren Lynn Bousman throw a script together in about 11 minutes and said "let's open it in theaters on 11/11/11 (again... that was actually 2000 years ago) and presto, we get this film that really didn't even need the gimmick of the number 11 and it would have been the same. It's trying to be a horror movie as well but there's just absolutely only a few jump scares or creepy horror to speak of. It could have had some fun with the whole religious angle but failed there too.

It's just a total fail.

Go watch The Number 23 then watch The Omen and smash them together and imagine them much more laborious and dull. It's predictable as it flows right through to a silly ending and by that point I'd quite caring and was checking the run time.

Interesting concept and premise at least, but it'll be 11/11/2111 before I try to watch this again I think.

Through The Never Live in Oslo, Norway

Why Won't You Let Richard Love You?

Richard Marx, yes Richard Marx I said, has a new CD coming out. It's called "Inside My Head" and will be out on Frontiers Records and will be released in Europe on June the 1st 2012. Check out the video for the first single, "Wouldn't Let Me Love You," below. You can find it digitally now.

Richard had a string of monster hit singles in the late 1980s and 1990s, including "Endless Summer Nights", "Right Here Waiting", "Now and Forever", and "Hazard". Although most of his major hit songs were slow ballads, many of his songs had a classic rock style, such as "Don't Mean Nothing", "Should've Known Better," "Satisfied," and "Too Late To Say Goodbye". Marx placed himself in the record books by being the first solo artist to have his first seven singles hit the Top 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart (3, 3, 2, 1, 1, 1, 4).

His record sales worldwide exceed 30 million.

Great White Has Something For You

Yes, Great White is still around and they've got a new CD out called Elation. This is the first single called "(I've Got) Something For You" and it sounds like classic Great White to me. And I guess it should since guitarist Mark Kendall, guitarist Michael Lardie and drummer Audie Desbrow are still in the band. Gone is vocalist Jack Russell but the guy who replaced him , Terry Ilous, sounds great and was formerly in another great band from the era, XYZ. This is a solid group they've put together and I'm going to have to check out the whole CD it seems.

Movie Review: Source Code

Synopsis: An action thriller centered on a soldier (Jake Gyllenhaal) who wakes up in the body of an unknown man and discovers he's part of a mission to find the bomber of a Chicago commuter train.

Sort of a cross between Inception and Deja Vu, I found this to be a pretty smart and satisfying sci-fi thriller that's got plenty of action but still has a nice heart. It's an intelligent puzzle-within-a-puzzle and yet still doesn't try to outsmart the audience and is easy to follow. The action scenes are great and there are plenty of edge-of-your-seat moments to make up for a bit of the slow times, of which there really aren't that many.

All the acting is good, but I thought Gyllenhaal still stole the show with a fine performance. Michelle Monaghan, Vera Farmiga and Jeffery Wright all knock it out of the park too though.

Weak points? There's sort of a fake ending that will have you waiting on the credits to roll up... but then wait, there's more. And it feels a bit tacked on to please a typical audience. Not sure if it is or not, but it felt like it.

Overall it's not your typical cliched blockbuster that it might appear to be, but a solid, sci-fi action flick with a somewhat original premise that's both brainy and thoughtful. Who knew it was possible?

Tesla Loves You

Check out the official video for "I Love You" from Tesla off their Twisted Wires CD that came out last year. It's a remake of the classic song from Climax Blues Band.

Tesla is still one of my favorite bands of all-time, easily, and they do a fantastic cover here.

Oh Hell Yeah, It's Hellyeah!!

American metal supergroup Hellyeah are back with a new CD that drops on July 17, 2012 and they've got a new video out for the title track, which you'll see below. It's called "Band of Brothers".

I personally hate the term "supergroup" but c'mon, this band consists of Mudvayne vocalist Chad Gray and guitarist Greg Tribbett, Nothingface guitarist Tom Maxwell, Damageplan bassist Bob Zilla, and former Pantera, Damageplan and Rebel Meets Rebel drummer Vinnie Paul. What else would you call that?

Put some volume to this or just turn it off.

Mission To Lars Trailer

Check this out... Mission To Lars is a real-life documentary feature film about Tom Spicer, a Metallica fan who who suffers from Fragile X Syndrome -- a form of autism. He is focused on singular goal and that's to meet and make the acquaintance of the Metallica drummer, Lars Ulrich. So his sister Kate and his brother William spring Tom from his care facility and head to London, Los Angeles and Las Vegas in hopes of meeting Lars. This definitely looks interesting and pretty touching.

Oh Yes, Lazy Sunday 2!

I thought the final Saturday Night Live of the season on Saturday night was pretty good. I enjoyed the Kristen Wiig sendoff (even teared up a bit) and Mick Jagger's musical performances quite a bit, especially the Foo Fighters backing him, but the highlight was what could be (?) the final Digital Short ever? Who knows.

Just like the brilliant Lazy Sunday video 7 years ago, this starts out much with Samberg waking up late on a Sunday and asking "Parns" to hang out (only this time, it's "Sister Act" on Broadway instead of "The Chronicles Of Narnia" movie). Bask in the greatness that is Lazy Sunday 2!!

The God That Failed Live In Poland

I love it when Metallica posts these videos like this. This one is from the Warsaw, Poland show on May 10th, 2012 and includes James in the Meet & Greet, Creeping Death in the Tuning Room, and The God That Failed from the show. I always loved this song from the black album, about James' mother's death as she was relying on her belief in God to heal her cancer.

I hear faith in your cries
Broken is the promise, betrayal
The healing hand held back by the deepened nail
Follow the god that failed

Brittney Palmer Gets and Stays Fit

As obsessed as I am with UFC ring card girl Brittney Palmer, I don't know how I missed this a few months back but I did. MMAWeekly.com posted this sweet video and whatever she's selling, I'm buying. Especially when she's near naked. Which oddly, almost every time I see her she is. Not complaining mind you, not at all.

UFC 146: Dos Santos vs Mir Extended Preview

We're still a few weeks out (May 28th) from Junior Dos Santos vs Frank Mir at UFC 146, but here's a pretty cool extended preview to chew on and get you a bit more ready. Personally I've never been a big fan of Frank Mir, but I respect his skills. I think he won't be able to get Junior down though and will get either knocked out or TKO'd.

Lot's of big heavyweight clashes on that card other than the main event as well. Check out the top of the card:

• Antonio Silva vs. Cain Velasquez
• Dave Herman vs. Roy Nelson
• Shane Del Rosario vs. Stipe Miocic
• Mark Hunt vs. Stefan Struve

Movie Review: The Violent Kind

Synopsis: One night at a secluded farmhouse deep in the Northern California woods, a small group of hardened young bikers and their girlfriends are tormented when one of the girls becomes savagely possessed and a gang of "Rockabillies" seemingly from the 1950's descends upon them to collect what is growing inside her.

So it starts out as an episode of Sons of Anarchy basically, with a bunch of (surprisingly good looking) bikers having a bit of a drunken throwdown at an isolated house. Then somehow some chick (horror queen Tiffany Shepis) gets possessed (?) by something (?) which was maybe ghosts (?) or aliens (?) or demons (?) or hell could have been a light monster I guess, whatever that is. Weird. Confusing. But really some fun moments occur and there are some mildly interesting characters to carry it along until things crank up.

And after about 50 minutes or so things begin to get going a bit crazier. Of course I'm still not exactly sure what the hell was going on. There are some undead rockabillies from another dimension/outer space (I think?) who torture and smack around our remaining bikers for no real reason and there's also the still possessed chick, who gets stripped naked for some sort of ritual. I think.

Anyway though, the rockabilly guys are the only really interesting characters in the film as they're quirky and violent. Things get pretty wild from the point of their arrival to the end. No less confusing, but at least wild and fun. A lot of the kills are still off screen, and there aren't that many kills really, but there's some gory stuff and blood splatter as things build to a weird finish.

For the eye candy it's not just a naked Tiffany Shepis but also a very easy-on-the-eyes Taylor Cole and equally cute young Christina McDowell. Tiffany's role mainly consists of her to be unconscious, but she does get to chew on a guy's face and lay the smack down on a few people around when she's not crawling on the ceiling.

Overall it's pretty well made and decently acted, although confusing and a bit silly, and has enough violence to live up to it's name.

5/10

Movie Review: Mother's Day Massacre

Synopsis: Jim Cavanaugh is a shy suburban New Jersey teenager. His mom left when he was a child and his father is an ass. The unrelenting psychotic domination of his redneck dad forces Jim to search out his long lost mother. His quest takes him to the backwoods of Jersey where he encounters semi-retarded hillbillies who have a taste for DIY circumcisions and Peterbilt trucks. Nobody escapes the bloodletting in this heartwarming tale of a family reunited. Sure to be a holiday classic.

This movie is amazing! And by that I mean amazingly awful. You name it about this one and it sucks, so at least it's consistent. Awful acting, script, effects, dialogue, soundtrack and characters. On top of all these things it's just confusing as to what the hell is going on the majority of the time. I'd have to guess that a lot of scenes that tied things together were cut, which I'm not complaining about because the 80 minute run time for this dreck is plenty. It plays like a porno minus the actual porn, it's just stupid.

There's some sort of perverted OBGYN that really has nothing to do with anything, but is thrown in for some reason. There's a white trash abusive father. There's a crazy Latino lady. There's a giant man-child and his goofy smaller brother. There's things being urinated on. There's a missing pug sub-plot (no idea why this was in there). There's a kill scene with a boner for no explained reason. And there is some sort of sub-theme about some snuff films that's touched on but never followed up. It's just poorly constructed all around. A totally nonsensical script and a meandering narrative make the entire thing sort of WTF.

Who to cheer for? Every single character is loathsome and behaves like all of their collective IQs is about the price of a case of beer. Cheap beer. The group of "kids" (they'll all easily in their 20s) go to some small town to look for one of their long lost mothers, but the town is creepy and looks sort of deserted. So what to do? HIDE AND SEEK! Yay! I'm serious. Ugh.

I love bad horror movies personally, but this one is almost too much. It gets points for making me laugh a few times, but I'm not that sure I was supposed to.

Happy Mother's Day!
