UFC Primetime: Silva vs. Sonnen

Seriously dude, check your pulse if you aren't fired up about this Anderson Silva vs Chael Sonnen fight. Holy hell this should be big. Big I say. Bigger than Stephen A. Smith's mouth. Bigger than Michael Jordan's ego. Bigger than, dare I say, Tom Cruise's closet. Bam. UFC 148 biatches.

Chael Sonnen nearly beat reigning champion Anderson Silva in their first meeting at UFC 117, dominating him for 4 and a half rounds. This time he vows to make it all five. Go inside the lives and preparation of the two fighters turned bitter rivals.

Bend It Like... WTF?

Check out this animated soccer GIF from SenorGif. Personally I can't stand soccer, I wish they'd add buried mines or something to make it not so damn boring, but still this is pretty f'n awesome. Not just that the kicker hooks the ball around the defenders right in front of him but still has enough hook and juice on the ball to bury it past the goalkeeper. It's like something from The Matrix. No land mines needed here (but I bet this was the only goal of this game... or it was a 1-1 tie).

Metallica's Orion Music & More Day 2 Recap

I already posted a video from day 1 and now MetallicaTV has a recap of day 2, including some movie tent footage from day 1, and Hit The Lights and Master Of Puppets from the show. Check out the nearly 1 hour of footage below. It's almost like being there! Except for the massive amounts of money you'd spend and having to deal with all the drunks of course. And black t-shirts. Oh my gawd the black t-shirts!!!!

Another Olympic Hottie... Jessica Hardy

I already told you I couldn't care any less about the Olympics, but I'm trying to find reasons to watch. The first reason I gave was javeliner (is that even a word?) Leryn Franco and she's a pretty good reason for sure. Next up how about we head towards the swimming pool and take a peak at American swimmer Jessica Hardy, who opens up about her life inside and outside the water in this video from FoxSports.

World class athlete? Yes. She specializes in the breaststroke and freestyle stroke. She currently holds the world record in the 50 m breaststroke (short and long course) and the 100 m breaststroke (long course). She has won a total of nineteen medals in major international competition, ten gold, eight silver, and one bronze spanning the World and the Pan Pacific Championships.

MetOnTour posted this cool 49 minute video of Metallica's Orion Music & More Day 1 Recap that was at Bader Field in Atlantic City, NJ on June 23 and 24, 2012.

37 bands and artists performed at the festival. Bands from a wide variety of genres, ranging from thrash metal and black metal to indie rock and experimental rock, played throughout the weekend. Members of Metallica introduced some of the bands performing and Robert Trujillo even performed with his old band Suicidal Tendencies. Metallica headlined the festival on both days and performed two of their most critically acclaimed albums in their entirety: their 1984 album Ride the Lightning on the Saturday night, and their 1991 eponymous fifth release on the Sunday night.

Best part? All the other boars get the hell out of there as soon as their buddy takes flight. Even the dude in the background by the tree is all like "WTF?!?"

Shut Yer Pie Hole, Lady!

Every day, at least 5 times, I want to do this to somebody. But I don't.

a. because it's not really legal
b. because I'm not a dooshbag

So instead I watch this animated gif from 4Gifs.com over and over and giggle like a school girl. I don't even know what the context here is, but I'm assuming fat, butchy lady said something that made scary, churchy lady angry. Possibly about her chubby daughter. Bammo! Beautiful. That'll learn her! That'll learn her good Maw!

Kenny Chesney Unstaged

Here's a little weekend treat for you. If you've never seen Kenny Chesney in concert you should (I have twice) as he's just a killer live performer. For a good idea of just how good here's an ENTIRE concert (runtime 1:26) from earlier this week, and it's pretty awesome. Check out the crowd of about 20,000 strong and the gorgeous location.

"On June 20, Kenny Chesney performed live from Wildwood Beach as part of the American Express UNSTAGED music series. Directed by Award winning director Jonathan Demme, the show was streamed online in partnership with YouTube and VEVO."

June, Week 3 Fails Time!

YourDailyLaughz has posted their video for the the best fails for the 3rd week of June, 2012. Like me, you're probably thinking just how much more stupidity can there be out there? The answer is... plenty. Bike jumps, wheelchair wheelies gone wrong, a nut-wracking attempted leap over a swimming pool and of course the obligatory skateboard face-plant. All here. And more.

Lucy, Just Hold The Damn Ball Still!

Oh how I loath Lucy Van Pelt with every fiber of my being. Chuck Brown was a simple kid that didn't ask for much. He just wanted to kick that football.

I found this animated gif on Guyism.com and it's possibly the greatest thing since the advent of the Internet and makes me very happy to stare at. Lucille Van Pelt, meet Peter Griffin's foot and feel the awesome power of KA-ROT-AY!

Velvet Sky's So Called Life

Did I ever tell you about the time I was front row at a Montgomery Gentry concert wearing a Black Sabbath shirt (with a cowboy hat) and Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry both fist bumped and gave me the Dio horns a few times? No? Well it happened, and I've liked this guys a bit more ever since. Here's a new video with a, shall I say... well-built, rasslin' gal. It says her name is Velvet Sky, although I have my suspicions that's even her real name. (actually, her name is Jamie Szantyr)

"Watch the world premiere music video of Montgomery Gentry's newest single, "So Called Life," starring TNA Wrestling Knockout Velvet Sky! Montgomery Gentry's new album "Rebels on the Run" is available everywhere now!"

Good stuff here for fellow beer geeks from Widmer Bros Brewing, one of my personal favorite breweries (along with Tallgrass, Stone, Founders and Piney River). Particularly a big fan of their Drifter Pale Ale, Brrr and W'12 Dark Saison.

Countdown to UFC® 147: Full Episode

It's a big weekend for the UFC with 2 major shows, but personally I think things are spread a bit thin here (thanks mainly to injuries) and you could easily combine the 2 average cards to form a really good card. Still though, there are some quality fights on both of the cards at least and I'm pretty psyched for the Clay Guida vs Gray Maynard fight. Here's the 2 shows, followed by bit on UFC 147 and the entire 45 minute countdown show.

Jun. 22: UFC on FX 4: Guida vs. Maynard
Jun. 23: UFC 147: Silva vs. Franklin II

Former UFC middleweight champ Rich Franklin and former Pride middleweight champ Wanderlei Silva rematch. Elite heavyweight contender Fabricio Werdum continues his run to the ttle against 15 and 1 Mike Russow, and new Ultimate Fighter champs in the featherweight and middleweight divisions will be crowned.

New KISS Comic Is Out

The new KISS comic from IDW has finally hit news stands and looks pretty cool, especially the cover of issue #1 (as seen below). I'll let you know when I find it in my local comic retailer.

Sinister Looks Pretty... Well... Sinister I Guess

Check out the new trailer for Sinister. It stars Ethan Hawke, Juliet Rylance, James Ransone, Clare Foley and is directed by Scott Derrickson. Lots of buzz for this horror film right now even though it's not out until October 5th. Derrickson also directed The Exorcism of Emily Rose, The Day The Earth Stood Still and Hellraiser: Inferno.

Synopsis: Found footage helps a true-crime novelist realize how and why a family was murdered in his new home, though his discoveries put his entire family in the path of a supernatural entity.

She's So Mean, But Wears Short-Shorts At Least

Matchbox Twenty has a new single out called "She's So Mean" so let's focus our attention on the lyric video they've just released for it. Normally I don't care for these lyric videos, but this particular one has a lot to like. This thing has a lot of close-up appearances of some very small booty shorts on a very hot young lady. So I say... GREAT LYRIC VIDEO! Well done guys.

From the new album North coming September 4th.

Movie Review: Haywire

Synopsis: A black ops super soldier (Gina Carano) seeks payback after she is betrayed and set up during a mission.

Let's get one thing straight first... I think Gina is smoking hot. The fact that she kicks the crap out of everybody in this movie and it all seems perfectly realistic does nothing to not make me think she's still smoking hot. In fact possibly just the opposite. But on to the movie itself.

Steven Soderbergh has loaded this film with a talented cast that includes Channing Tatum, Ewan McGregor, Michael Fassbender, Antonio Banderas, Bill Paxton and Michael Douglas. That's almost too much really. None have large parts in the film, only Carano really is the focus. That's a bit of a negative really with all that under-used talent and a focus on a relative unknown and rookie. She does well enough though. Not spectacular acting on her part, but believable.

He acting weaknesses are really hidden by her action parts though. She's ass-kicking on a regular basis here. This film is full of chases and fights and shoot-outs and she's great. The fight scenes are particularly well-choreographed and shot I thought. There's some martial arts involved and I have a feeling she actually hurt some of the guys during filming it looks so good. This isn't Angelina Jolie trying to make us think she knocked a man out with one punch (see Salt and Wanted), this is Gina f'n Carano slamming him down and choking him out with her thighs as muscular and big as Angelina's waist.

As for the plot, it's a pretty straight-forward, simple revenge thriller that's been done-to-death. Nothing more, nothing less. It feels like parts were written especially to get some of the supporting actors in the film almost. You've seen it before, you know the twist, you know the ending.

Overall it's fun, stylish, full of action, full of Carano... and not much else. Good, not great. Would it have killed Sodenbergh to put in 1 bikini scene? I think not.

Maximum Exposure: A Decade of Hometown Hotties

Granted, there have been some great ideas by man through the years. Electricity comes to mind. As does beer. But I'd have to say Maxim's Hometown Hotties contest ranks right up there somewhere between the cotton gin and solar power. Thank you Maxim. You can go vote right now for current inclusion if you want.

Movie Review: Jersey Shore Shark Attack

Synopsis: Jersey Shore Shark Attack unfolds during the July Fourth weekend at – where else? — the Jersey Shore, where rare swarms of sharks are converging due to illegal underwater drilling. Now the angry sharks are on a rampage, devouring residents, and leaving it up to the locals to try and save the day.

When I first heard of this I thought how great it would be to see those annoying Jersey Shore folks munched on by killer sharks. I could really see the potential. Sadly, the annoying people are actual the HEROES here. I kid you not. *sigh*

This is a total parody of The Jersey Shore TV show with lead characters that are complete caricatures of them, right down to names like Nooki, Paulie, J-Moni and The Complication. Now take that awful show and add scenes from Jaws, then throw in a bit of the recent Piranha remake... and you have this tongue-in-cheek abomination.

The sharks make some appearances between listening to the Guidos argue and complain, and you'll wish they didn't once you see them. The sharks look so incredibly fake you'd think some 12-year-old made them on his computer. And somehow they can grab people off of boat decks and even take a guy right off a stage that didn't even appear to be close to the water. It's hilarious actually. As usual with SyFy channel films, every scene like this causes massive (and ridiculous) blood spray.

Pluses? Joey Fatone makes a cameo and gets turned into shark chum, so that's pretty cool. The lades are pretty hot and there are a lot of bikinis. The parodies of the Jersey Shore cast was actually fun it rips on the Italian-American stereotype to no end.

I'll say this film is very self-aware of it's total sucktitude and that does make it pretty fun. If you like the "so-good-it's-bad" sort of thing you may love this. Personally I think with better effects and a higher body count which includes all the Guidos, plus some R-rated style skin shown, it might have been a classic.

The Duplex Nails It

As usual, Glenn McCoy's The Duplex comic strip nails it today. I hope he's drinking an IPA and watching UFC.

Movie Review: Water For Elephants

Synopsis: Set during the depression era of the early 1930s, a veterinary student (Robert Pattinson) abandons his studies after his parents are killed and joins a traveling circus as their vet, where he becomes interested in a performer who is also the owner's wife (Reese Witherspoon).

I liked this better than I expected to as I'm not a big fan of romance movies really. It's just good storytelling and the setting of a traveling circus in the era of the Great Depression was compelling. The movie is well shot and looks fantastic and I found the acting to be very competent as well. I expected it from the usually fantastic Reese Witherspoon but I thought Pattinson held his own as well, despite not a lot of depth for his character (which may work to his advantage for all I know). Together as an on-screen item though personally I found their chemistry a bit lacking. Christoph Waltz's performance as a jack-ass with bursts of violence makes up for a bit of that though.

Other than the lack of chemistry, the only thing I really found it suffering from was that it drags a bit at times and it's really quite predictable with a telegraphed love triangle and an ending that though it is well shot and exciting, you could see coming with a very heavy-handed set-up early on.

Overall though the epic backdrop of the 1930s-era train circus just cool and fun and it's got solid special effects and a grand finish. Just what I want from a circus... or a romantic drama for that matter.

Rascal Flatts Doesn't Stop Believin'

Pretty cool moment at the 2012 CMT Awards last week when Rascal Flatts closed the show with their recent hit "Banjo" and then called out Journey on the stage to play a sweet duel version of "Don't Stop Believin'" as the place was going nuts. Surely we can all agree that "Don't Stop Believin'" is the greatest song in history (it's the top-selling catalog track in iTunes history as well). And Arnel got him a bit of a hair cut it seems. Dude can sing.

P.S. Neal Schon is still one of the best rock guitarist ever.
