Rock Gives You Wings

Bands and record labels have never exactly been known for being really original with their ideas. If a sound or look gets popular, you'll see 50 knockoffs within a year. Hell lately I've even noticed a trend in the CD covers even as the ideas run pretty short apparently. When I picked up the new Buckcherry the other day I just had to laugh. It's called Black Butterfly, so of course it has a big butterfly on the cover.

Gee, another winged creature... too bad nobody else has come up with that lately. Oh wait...

Not to be confused with the Black Butterfly CD, there are also CDs called Black Bird and Black Swan there amongst the covers. None of the 3 are from the band The Black Crowes for the record. Nor should Buckcherry be confused with Black Stone Cherry (whose CD cover actually doesn't have a winged creature on it).

And it doesn't even seem exclusive to rock bands lately as I noticed a couple of country artists on the bandwagon too with their recent CDs, which is really rare since country artists almost always just put their own pictures on their covers. Maybe these 2 just want to be more "rock"?

  1. Nice collection of album covers. I think Alter Bridge is my favorite one and the Dokken one is the silly one.
