So it's Friday at last and finally some horror movies will start creeping into the theaters for the Halloween month. The first one comes today and it looks very cool.
Quarantine
The Plot: What happened to the people who were locked inside an apartment building by a CDC-issued quarantine? The only evidence left after the quarantine has been lifted is a videotape shot by a TV reporter (Jennifer Carpenter) and her cameraman who were investigating the initial 911 call.
My Thoughts: Looks like an excellent horror movie I think, although I'm a bit done with the whole "Blair Witch Project/Cloverfield found camera footage" thing. I love Jennifer Carpenter (Dexter's sister on Dexter and Emily Rose in The Exorcism of Emily Rose) and think the trailer is creepy as all hell when she gets dragged back away from the camera. This is based on the Spanish horror film [REC] I believe.
Body of Lies
The Plot: In Jordan, an ex-journalist (Leo DiCaprio) working to locate an Al Qaeda leader for the CIA faces pressure from an agent (Russell Crowe) for whom failure is not an option.
My Thoughts: Leo and Russell together are reason enough to take a peek at this I think. A political thriller with a solid cast usually spells good things.
City of Ember
The Plot: For generations, the underground City of Ember has been the only light in an otherwise dark world. But when the city's generator begins to fail, teenagers Lina and Doon desperately race to help their fellow citizens escape before the lights go out permanently. To do so, they will have to search Ember high and low for clues that will unlock the ancient mystery of their city's origins.
My Thoughts: OK, looks a bit strange but I'm intrigued. It's based on Jeanne DuPrau's fantasy novels and is aimed more at kids, with a rating of PG. The director also directed Monster House, which I really like.
