A claustrophobic thriller about a team of vampire hunters who infiltrate a nest of undead to rescue one of their own after a pair of brothers unleash one of the most evil vampires ever.So it's hard to believe a horror movie with legends Sid Haig (The Devil's Rejects, House of 1000 Corpses) and Ken Foree (Dawn of the Dead, The Devil's Rejects) can be as dull as this one, but it was true for me.
First off the story-telling isn't linear but sort of jumps from today to yesterday and all over so it's hard to keep up at times. To add to that confusion it feels like it starts somewhere in the middle of a story (I had to check and see if I had accidentally hit skip on my DVD player) and the end isn't an end at all. It's like watching the middle film of a triology. Secondly the sets all seem to be the same really and I never got a feel for where they were or how it was laid out. It seems like it was all filmed in the corner of a warehouse or something. The vampires teeth seem too big for their mouths as well, resulting in buck-toothed funny-talking vampires... which isn't too scary really. Lastly, Sid and Ken never share the screen together.
Anything good? Well the story is OK if it wasn't all bogged down. And Ken and Sid are quite fun to watch as expected when they do get some screen time. It could have used more of both.
I know it's an indie film probably shot for very little, but it appeared as though it was made for somewhere around $7-$8 with the bad effects, props and sets. It detracted from a decent story for me. I had read several good reviews and praise for this film but I just couldn't get into it.
3/10
