Synopsis: A young cop (Channing Tatum) is assigned to a precinct in the working class neighborhood where he grew up, and an old secret threatens to destroy his life and his family.
You'd think with names like Channing Tatum, Ray Liotta, Al Pacino, Katie Holmes and Tracey Morgan you'd get a pretty decent cop drama out of this, but it's just so damn slow. Channing Tatum is one of my favorite actors even and I thought this sounded like it would be perfect for him but there's just too much emoting and not enough action going on for me.
The cast is good with what they've given to work with, it's just the pacing is boring and the story is just a pretty standard routine cop story. There is a lot of staring as if in deep thought and way too much dialogue all trying to explain a fairly weak story.
Other than the pace, the direction is solid. The scenes and set designs and such are all very good for a gritty type NY cop drama. And again, the actors really do a fine job. I just wanted and expected a bit more from the story. It's a mystery of sorts, but really it's not a mystery as it's all very obvious as it unfolds and seem like it would have been obvious to the characters. Lots of things just never add up with how some characters behave.
Ugh. Wasted opportunity here for what could have easily been a solid movie.
5/10
